[Commissioned by DansiT’s MultipliО Festival, Trondheim, Norway] 2018
The literal translation of the French word ‘parcours’ is a course, or route. It can also be used to describe an itinerary, or resume – the parcours of your life is where you have been. DansiT, the regional dance agency for Trondheim and mid-Norway, commissioned the team to create a site specific participant performance ‘Where have you been?’ to thread a trail through the city.
Working with young people from diverse backgrounds, including refugees, this would be a way of ‘taking ownership’ of public spaces through animating them with movement. The project was featured as part of the ‘Cultural Schoolbag’ so also involved schools workshops for over 600 students. They came to see the sell-out performances too, along with the general public and hundreds more young people, all of whom were invited to have a go for themselves at the end of the show. This 45 minute performance took place across a mile of Trondheim’s city scape and involved the animation of public space. Rehearsals took place in all conditions, and during the worst winter of recent times this included minus 12 degree snows! The performers, for the most part complete beginners, exceeded all expectations and created something truly wonderful. A workshop for dancers and dance teachers, a post performance discussion, and photographer Andy Day’s presentation of his ‘Former’ project complimented the show itself. The seeds of a new 2PK community in Trondheim have been well sown.
